Work + Holidays = ?

I know from experience that this time of the year can be stressful! Sure, there are wonderful memories about to be made and lots of great food to be eaten, but the bottom-line is it's stressful, whether it's having the family over for dinner or finalizing your 2010 budgets and strategic goals.

Although it seems like things tend to slow down at the office, I've got budgets, strategy and a ton of "catch up" work to be done. It always seems like I look at December as my time to get my head back above the water line, so to speak. I challenge myself to clear the inbox, organize and set goals and priorities for next year and try to take advantage of the slower pace of the season - although work still needs be done and deadlines need to be met. Couple that with personal obligations around the holidays and it seems that all that extra time is disappearing before I even get to take advantage of it. Where does the time go? For that matter, where the hell did the year go? I can't believe we're headed into 2010! It seems like yesterday when we were all worried about Y2K. Has it really been 10 years?!

Where am I going with my blog? I haven't got a clue and I guess that's the point! Some times it good to just reflect on your accomplishments and dial down the stress (even though we've got so much of it these days). So, with my typical rant, I just wanted to wish everyone in BA Land a wonderful Holiday Season and Happy New Year! We've almost made it through 2009 and with the kind of year it's been, that's an accomplishment in and of itself. Here's to a merrier and more successful 2010!!

Thanks for subscribing to BA Times and for making it the leading BA online community. We couldn't have done it without you and I just want to say thanks! We look forward to your feedback, involvement and dialogue. 2010 has a ton of exciting new additions coming to BA Times, so stay tuned and keep reading!

Warm Regards,

Adam R. Kahn

Thanks for the post Adam. I was getting stressed the other with the holidays coming and project deadlines looming. Then I received my Sports Illustrated magazine in the mail with Derek Jeter on the cover named 2009 SI Sportsman of the Year. I reflected back on the NY Yankees World Series win and I was stress free!

Hi,
You've made me remember that 10 years ago, many of us were involved in Y2K projects, WOW. Developing recovery plans, checking servers, networking, applications and other devices (included microwave owens :), being pending of our peers in New Zealand (the first ones to turn to 2000) and with beepers, cellulars and sattelite phones ready to answer.
Regards
Enrique

YES! Y2K. It is amazing that it was 10 years ago. I can remember the planning and planning and planning that led up to the event, and then...poof. Nothing. Was it due to all of the hours of analysis and planning, or was it an over-hyped media event?

The answer...both.
