OllanIt is with deep sadness that we inform you that Ollan Delany, our long-time friend and dedicated editor of ProjectTimes and BA Times, passed away on Sunday of colon cancer. Ollan was 68.

Ollan was an easy going and happy person who excelled in the Publishing industry. He was integral in developing content since the inception of both ProjectTimes and BA Times.

Ollan developed outstanding relationships with many key thought leaders in the PM and BA community and is a big reason for our success in presenting, the larger PM & BA Community, with timely and relevant content.

Ollan joined our ProjectTimes team within the first two years of publication (1998). He knew nothing about project management but everything about the English language and the written word. It took him very little time to figure us out and in turn became indispensible to us.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and well wishes by posting a comment/message below.

If you are interested in making a donation to The Cancer Society in Memoriam of Ollan, you can do so HERE.

Our deepest condolences to Ollan's family. Farewell dear friend. We miss you already.

I was shocked when I heard the news earlier this week. As a contributor to BA Times, I had the great opportunity to work with Ollan almost every week. I will miss him dearly. I could always count on Ollan to be a great sounding board for some of my blog ideas. It was comforting knowing Ollan would be honest with me. For my future blog posts I know I will be asking myself, "I wonder what Ollan thinks of this one."

Ollan was a great guy who will be dearly missed. I always had a hard time carving out the time to write my blog. If it wasn't for Ollan's emails and reminders, I'd probably never turn in my blog. In fact,my last conversation with him was his reminder to me. Ollan- thanks for your patience and coordination. You helped make BATimes and ProjectTimes what it is today and you are deeply missed my friend. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family and friends!

I had the privilege of working with Ollan on several occasions while publishing for BA/PM Times. I found Ollan to be a consumate professional who loved what he did. He was easy to work with, gave me honest and helpful feedback about my writing, and was always very encouraging. Thanks Ollan, for all of your help. You will be missed!

My personal brand, the Bad Ass BA, started out as an amusement, but Ollan Delany saw the potential for getting people's attention. He pushed that moniker into BA Times headlines repeatedly and created a wonderful success for my 2009 articles for which I am very grateful. It doesn't take guts to be impetuous. It took a publishing professional to know how to package impetuous energy and use it to inculcate the readership. Kupe - I too will be writing my next article with Ollan's voice in my head. Requiescat in pace, Ollan Delany. My condolences to your family. Sincerely, the Bad Ass BA

Dear Ollan, It was always such a pleasure to receive, over the past few years, your polite requests to correct my nonsense. I felt I had a true friend on the other side of the world. Will you be saving that champagne for me so that we can toast the beauty of the English language together some day? With love, Suzanne

I was shocked to read of Ollan's passing. Ollan was my very first boss in advertising so many many years ago, when I interned at Quiller & Blake during university. He was a wonderful boss, so witty and warm - I really liked working for him. I had no idea that he was the editor here - today I'm deep in the IT BA world, and always use this site as a valuable resource - how the world comes full circle, knowing that Ollan was here, guiding my career, still. I feel deeply for your loss, and for his friends and family. My thoughts go out to you all at this time.

It is a delight to read the comments from Ollan's professional life and the respect his colleagues had for him. He was a true professional and even in his last weeks he was fretting about getting his work done. He called on his good friend, Hilda, pen in hand, jotter on lap to be his right hand girl to meet the deadlines. Lest you all think Ollan was all work and no play, let me assure you that he had a full and busy life with many long standing pals. I count myself as one. Ollan and I co-owned a cottage for over 25 years and in between fishing, golfing, swimming, water ski-ing (some time ago!) and the occasional alcoholic beverage he sure got up to some high jinks and had lots of fun. He was a wonderful friend to me. I miss him deeply. Liz .

This is Ollan's sister in Dublin - it is nice to read so many kind comments about Ollan and I would have to agree with all of them. Eventhough he was my brother I have to say he was a soft kind and generous person and will be sadly missed. Thank you all for making his life a good one.

Hello, I had no idea whatsoever that Ollan was sick. Never talked to me about it. And he always humored me positively with his good natured approach to my late blog entry deliveries, including the very last one, not even a month ago. He was such a charming person and I mentioned many times my desire to meet him if ever I was coming by Toronto in my numerous travels. I will miss him dearly. He suffered silently, never said a word about his condition. Always made me feel as if I was the most important person in our relationship. I am extremely saddened by his unexpected (for me) transition out of this physical world. So long Ollan. I will never forget you and you exceptional kindness. Claude

It is wonderful to read all of these fond notes from across the world. Ollan was my Uncle and God Father, "responsible for my spiritual needs" as he would say! He had a great sense of humor and a knack for befriending people of all ages. This page is very touching and much appreciated.

In the short time I have known Ollan, he has shown himself to be a true professional with a wry sense of humour. A colleague who introduced us had this to say on hearing of Ollan's death: "Ollan was a lovely gentleman. I met him when I first came over to Toronto and we had many good chats about Ireland. He was born in Dublin. We used to meet up every year for lunch at Project World." 68 is too young, It is a shame.

I will always remember Ollan's famous words, "Storm, do you happen to know if Chris has finished his article? " Ollan, you were a true gentleman and you will be greatly missed. RIP. The world is a better place because of your warmth, your humour and of course, your patience.

My interactions with Ollan were wonderfully simple and encouraging, I had the sense that he genuinely appreciated my contributions, was tolerant of my foibles (including the oft mentioned tardiness) and would be happy to have more work from me. What more could a person ask of an editor? It's clear from the comments so far that he will be sadly missed by his colleagues, friends and his family. How wonderful that BA / Project Times has created this space for those who knew him to share their feelings and thus ensure each other that he is and will be remembered with great appreciation. Ollan, was named as " number two son" in our house by my father from a pretty young age., he became a second brother to me and a constant in my life. Realising that he is no longer "over there in Canada" is going to be hard. To lose one brother was hard, it is even harder to lose two, both were dear friends and made such a difference to my life. I send my love to Bria, Ciar, Ronan, Grainne and Derucca, and their families, and I thank all his friends in Toronto that helped him not only in his last few weeks but during his life. See you on the first tee in the fairways above Ollan, Love you Jean.

I’ve met Ollan only in a non-work context, and then only a few times, on summer weekends, as a guest of Liz Mullan and he at their jointly held cottage at Anstruther. Th e last time there was some 18years ago, when I realised that Ollan was able to discern my values on a whole lot of things just by asking apparently innocent questions – a powerful ability, supported by the first comment here about his command of language. Particularly in support of comments already made, he was always excellent company! I can see that he must have been a boon to blog contributors with this gift and would like to imagine that he enjoyed great pleasure in honing contributions to maximise the intended message of contributors. Fortunately my family and I were able to meet with him briefly for a delightful lunch hosted by Liz this summer. My youngest daughter recalls him as “ the funny one”, which separates him from the rest of us and my recollection is that he’d changed little from 18 years ago, apart from his dry, succinct humour being completely up to date, - joking about, as I recall, inter- alia, the quirks of Satnav pronunciations We celebrate his life.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to see Ollan nearly as much as we would have liked with the distance in between us. However, when he did manage to get home we always enjoyed his visits…………wheth er or not he did is a different question………………… …!!! One of my distinct memories is a close call he had when his sister suggested her daughter drive Ollan out where Ballykissangel was filmed. No issues there you may think but, when you add in the fact her daughter was only 17, new to the roads and hadn’t passed her test yet makes the story a bit more hazardous! Let ’s just say I don’t think I managed convince him of my driving abilities when we had a very close call at a crossroads at high speed!!! My proclamations of “Oh I had the right of way Ollan, he was in the wrong, I swear” didn’t seem to have him convinced. I think that’s when his hair officially turned grey!!! Ollan also woke up in our house one morning, went about his business and was startled to find a stranger in our house. He soon learnt that this was my best friend, who liked to climb in our sitting room window on a regular occurance and watch TV, whilst pretending to her Mother that she was in college for the day. In true Ollan style, he found great amusement in this and became accustomed to greeting her each morning he was there! And finally Gransers………………m y Dad’s Mother. She always had a soft spot for Ollan. “Pooooor Ollan” she would say with great affection whenever his name was mentioned. She is up there with him now having a great awl catch up. All of the comments from friends, relatives and colleagues go to prove that he was a friendly, humourous and successful man in both his business and private life – a great character who will be missed. Rest in Peace Ollan Kela xxxx

I haven't the adequate words - but I know a man who does: WB Yeats. "When I play on my fiddle in Dooney, Folk dance like a wave of the sea. My cousin is s priest in Kilvarnet, My brother iin Mocharabuiee. I passed my borther and cousin They read in their books of prayer, I read in my book of songs I bought at the Sligo Fair. When we come at the end of time To Peter sitting in state He will smile on the three old spirits But call me first through the gate; For the good are always merry Save by an evil chance And the merry love the fiddle, And the merry love to dance: And when the folk there spy me, They will all come up to me With 'Here is the fiddler of Dooney!' And dance like a wave of the sea. You were a wonderful man, Ollan, and will be sorely missed. May you rest in peace.

Ollan's cuzzin. Interes teringly, that at this time of year Ollan would call me a ask ' It's almost December and I haven't seen your Christmas card .....I thought you mailed these out in July'. I'll miss that this year. I'll miss a lot of things, like our discussions on who's who in pictures dated back in the 18 and 1900's. Was it a Fullen, a Murray , Cullen, Higgins or Delany. Who was the Priest or Nun or ....that's not our family at all, he would laugh. He was a really fun guy and we enjoyed a lot of laughs together, mostly by phone but often in person. I will miss the good craik!

Ollan was my friend and neighbor for many years. I will miss his good company and great sense of humor. I once brought my new 6 pound dog Lexi, over to his place. She had a wee pee on his carpet. A few days later I received a card in the mail with a cartoon from the paper taped on it. A man in a Carpet Cleaning van with a small dog in the front seat. " Lexi, make it look like an accident." Welcome to the neighborhood Lexi, love Ollan. It sits on my refrigerator. Always remembered Ollan

The three of us were double second cousins; our parents, Jack and Eithne, of Dawson Court were brother and sister respecftivelyl to Ollan’s parents, Joe and Tresi, of Cherryfield. Our childhood ties were strong and the memories keep on.There were also many strong links with Ollan when we met him intermittently in Canada for family get togethers. These bring back memories of his warmth, humour and wit. Our sympathy to our family and to his friends.

Ollan’s departure has opened a huge void in the lives of family and friends. A natural, friendly, honest, gentle, kind, welcoming, hospitable, helpful, considerate, supportive, funny, convivial, humourous, persuasive, gregarious, erudite, literate, determined person – those are only a few descriptions of our brother to which should be added, feisty, argumentative, lively, spirited -, so aptly put by Sean O’Casey (Juno and the Paycock) “He’s an oul’ butty o’ mine- oh, he’s a darlin’ man, a daarlin’ man”. We shall all miss visits to and from him. Our thoroughly enjoyable trips to Lake Anstruther shall remain highlights and will be, especially, remembered for the comedic sibling rivalry for domination of the kitchen! This Christmas, one less at our table means less banter, less “craic”. Jen, Nick, Chris, Delya, Ray and I, will feel his absence deeply as will many friends on Ile Bigras, To all the friends of Ollan, particularly Hilda, Liz, Dolores and Howard, as well as each and every other one, his family thanks you sincerely for caring and supporting Ollan when he most needed it. To Mike Morton, Project Times and Business Analyst – your site has been a wonderful and warm way to gather memories of Ollan. Thank you for it.

Dear Ollan: After 44 years of constant communication this is not easy--rejoinder "It was never meant to be easy, work on it". I love you and will miss your firm voice, your presence, and that gentle, deliberate, articulate opinion that came so naturally ("I worked on that too, ya know!") Thank you for that omni presence. A rare gift. The world was most surely a better place with you in it. "Oh, that there were more like you". Your love of the written and spoken word, your genuine affection of persons who wanted to do good, your intolerance of politicians and people in high places who "screwed up" and made life more difficult that it needed to be. Ollan, you always made life less difficult for the many who were fortunate enough to know you. 'Til the very end you found time to serve both kith and kin, friends and sometimes foes alike. "We have not here a lasting city but one that is to come" Saint Augustine. Life is not ended, just changed. Slan leat a cara. P.S. My family association with the Delanys goes back a long, long way to rugby in the 20s, 30s, and 40s. Joe Delany was the presdent of Bective Rangers, my late dad Eamon, was president of UCD RFC and of the Leinster branch of the Irish Rugby Football Union. This rugby association led to Joe's advertising firm doing all the advertising work for Irish Shipping Limited when my dad was Chairman. Ollan kept all that advertising material and gave it to me some 20 years ago not knowing that our respective fathers knew each other. Perhaps he did and never said it. John

Ironically, we were in Ireland when we heard of Ollan's death. Bria and Ray summed up all of Ollan's wonderful qualities and we will never forget the mischevious grin that went along with one-upping somebody, especially on a piece of trivia that was close to his heart. Ollan was a character in the best sense of the word and the world is a poorer place without him. We hope that wherever he is, Ollan is enjoying a jeroboam with fellow characters like Saunders, Roche and Baker who moved on before him. Olly, we will miss you. Norm and Mary

I am sad to have confirmed, belatedly, Ollan's passing. I last saw and had lunch with my fellow "gym mate" this August past in the garden of his new residence. We shared tea or a lunch from time to time. He shared herbs from his garden, as well his own "Residence Choice" Seville Marmalade, enjoyed by all my family. I got to know Ollan in the last two or three years as a good conversationali st. We shared common values and enjoyed many discussions on a variety of topics; I will miss that. I will also miss his voice and good company. My condolences to the family. Bill Riggs and Family, Toronto
