Avoiding Conflict between the PM and BA. Part 1

At a recent conference I sat next to a project manager who observed, "My organization hired a new consulting company to do business analysis work. They've completely taken over. Now they do a lot of the work that I used to do, such as meeting with the sponsor to uncover the business problems, determining what we're going to do on the project...I can't believe it! I feel like I'm being treated like a second-class citizen!"

Business Analysts Need to Learn from Developers

Kupe_Nov_9There was an article in the November issue of InformationWeek that made me think of this title.  Developers just get it when it comes to keeping up with new technology and finding ways to stay current.  Yeah, some developers try to use their new toys on our projects even if it is not really needed, but they also do it on their own time.

BA Opportunities in the New Economy

For the last six months, I have been working in a very different kind of environment, on a very different kind of opportunity. It made me realize that there are career paths for BA skills that are not obvious (and potentially quite lucrative), so this month I share a few.

First of all, I am having the time of my life. My new venture is an entrepreneurial opportunity in the bowling and family entertainment businesses (think family fun, arcades, boardwalks, bowling centers).

Less than 10% Information Density!

I left off my last post alluding to the need for conversation as part of the requirement process-continuous, reflective, emergent, and ongoing communication. The conversations in this case are face-to-face discussion amongst the constituents who are tasked with implementing a specific feature or component.
